You've Been Thinking About Yoga... Maybe This Is Your Sign.
Maybe this isn't the first time you've looked up yoga.
Maybe you've visited our website before.
Maybe you've driven past the studio and wondered what it's like inside.
Maybe a friend has been telling you to come for months.
Maybe you've even checked out our class schedule once or twice... then talked yourself out of it.
If you keep coming back to the idea of yoga, It’s not a coincidence. You're probably more ready than you realize.
Every week, someone walks through the doors at Jaya Yoga Studio convinced they're "not a yoga person." Sometimes they've never taken a yoga class.Sometimes it's been years since they've done anything that remotely resembles exercise. They'll tell me, "I used to be active..." or "I haven't taken a fitness class since college," or "I'm so out of shape." And almost every single one of them leaves saying the same thing: "I wish I'd done this sooner."
You Think You're "Not Flexible Enough"
This is the one I hear most often. When someone tells me they're not flexible enough for yoga, I always share one of my favorite yoga quotes:"Saying you're not flexible enough for yoga is like saying you're too dirty to take a bath."
Yoga isn't something you do because you're flexible. It's one of the ways you become more flexible. And I'm not just talking about your hamstrings. I'm talking about something even more important, your mindset.
We get stuck in stories we tell ourselves:
"I'm too old."
"I'm too out of shape."
"I'll probably be the worst one there."
"Maybe I'll start someday."
Yoga has a funny way of proving those stories wrong.
Yes, your body becomes more flexible over time. But so does your thinking. You become more patient with yourself. More willing to try. More accepting of where you are today instead of criticizing yourself for where you think you should be. To me, that's where the real flexibility begins.
You're Looking for More Than a Workout
Yes, yoga builds strength. It improves balance, mobility, and flexibility. Some classes will absolutely make you sweat. But one of the reasons I love yoga is because it's more than a workout. Yogis like to say it's a workout... and a work-in.
Yes, you'll build strength. You'll improve your balance. You'll probably discover muscles you forgot you had. But you'll also slow down. For one hour, your attention shifts away from your phone, your inbox, your to-do list, and everyone else who needs something from you.
You notice your breath. You notice your body. You notice where you've been holding tension. You notice yourself. And when class is over, you leave feeling stronger, but often calmer, too. That's the beauty of yoga. The greatest transformation isn't always physical.
So You Don't Know Anyone...
I hear this one all the time. "What if I don't know anybody?"
Here's the good news: neither did most of the people in the room when they came to their first class. One of my favorite things about Jaya Yoga Studio has nothing to do with yoga itself. It's watching one of our students notice a new face and walk over to introduce themselves before I even have the chance. They'll ask if it's your first class, help you find props, show you where to leave your shoes, and make sure you feel comfortable.
I don't ask them to do that. It's just who they are. I've watched complete strangers become friends, and I've lost count of how many times someone has told me, "I was so nervous to come, but everyone made me feel so welcome."
If you're looking for beginner yogain Clarks Summit, I hope you'll come experience it for yourself. You may walk through our doors without knowing a single person. I have a feeling you won't feel that way for long.
You Keep Coming Back to the Idea
Maybe you've been thinking about trying beginner yoga for weeks.
Maybe it's been months.
Maybe even years.
And every time you think about signing up, that little voice says...
"Maybe after I get into shape."
"Maybe when life slows down."
"Maybe when I'm more flexible."
Can I tell you something? Every experienced yogi was once the person wondering if they belonged. Every one of them had a first class. Every one of them walked through the door wondering if they could do it. If you live in Northeastern PA and you've been circling the idea of yoga, wondering if now is the time...
Maybe this is your sign.
You don't need to be more flexible. You don't need to be in better shape. You don't need to wait for Monday, next month, or next year. You just need to begin.
