A Spooktacular Jaya Tradition: Blacklight Yoga & Farm-to-Table

Students practicing Blacklight Yoga surrounded by glowing Halloween decorations at Jaya Yoga Studio in Clarks Summit, PA.

Our Jaya community glowing together during one of our favorite Halloween traditions.

If you know, you glow.

Long before Blacklight Yoga became one of the biggest nights on our calendar, it was simply a fun Halloween idea in our old studio. We turned down the lights, brought out the glow bracelets and decorations, and invited everyone to wear something bright.

And, as they say, it took on a life of its own.

Year after year, more people came. The studio got brighter, the outfits became more creative, and our students fully understood the assignment. People don't exactly wear costumes but they definitely plan their attire. Neon leggings, glow-in-the-dark shirts, fun makeup, glowing accessories…we've seen it all, and we love every bit of it.

Somewhere along the way, this little Halloween class became a full-blown Jaya tradition and truly one of our favorite community events of the year.

Come for the Glow Flow

The heart of the night is still our Blacklight Yoga class: a full studio, great music, plenty of glowing details, and a fun, flow taught by Hilary.

This is not a serious costume contest, and there is absolutely no pressure to create an elaborate look. Wear your brightest workout clothes, add a few glow accessories when you arrive, or come exactly as you are. Once the blacklights come on, everyone looks pretty fabulous anyway.

We have glow bracelets, glow-in-the-dark decorations, markers, temporary tattoos, and whatever other glowing treasures we happen to dream up that year. Every time we offer this event, we try to add something fun, new, or just a little over the top—because if there is ever a night to do too much, it's Halloween.

In recent years, Carly Rebar of Eventfully Yours CR has helped us create some incredible photo opportunities, including playful signs and glow-in-the-dark balloon arches. The setup changes every year, so even our longtime Blacklight Yoga crew never knows exactly what they'll find when they walk through the door.

And yes, kids are welcome at the yoga class! We love having them join the fun. Some parents bring the kids for class, then have a partner or caregiver pick them up while the grown-ups stay for the second half of the evening. Honestly, it's a pretty brilliant Halloween handoff.

Stay for the Farm-to-Table Experience

Back in the early Blacklight Yoga days, some of us would head to a local restaurant after class. Because, apparently, glowing and flowing works up an appetite.

When Jaya moved into our new space in 2020 and Maximum Zen became part of the picture, the event had room to grow into something much bigger. In 2021, we added a farm-to-table dinner and this year marks our sixth time pairing the two together.

Donna, the owner of Maximum Zen, is delightfully obsessed with Halloween, so this is very much her time to shine. The result is a festive four-course meal filled with seasonal food, creative touches, and plenty of Halloween spirit.

The dinner gives everyone a chance to slow down, laugh, eat something wonderful, and enjoy one another's company outside the usual rhythm of class. The yoga is fantastic, but this time around the table is what turns the night into a true experience.

Because dinner is later in the evening and served over four courses, it is really designed for adults. Kids are absolutely welcome to glow with us during yoga, but the farm-to-table portion is best left to the grown-ups.

Choose Your Own Spooky Adventure

You can join us in whichever way works best for you:

Come for Blacklight Yoga: Use an eligible Jaya membership or class package, or register at the regular drop-in rate.

Stay for the whole experience: Register for the special-event package, enjoy yoga, and then join us for the four-course farm-to-table dinner.

Blacklight Yoga usually brings 30 to 40 glowing yogis into the studio, while the dinner is a more intimate gathering with limited seating. In other words: this one tends to fill, so don't wait too long to claim your spot.

Come for the flow. Stay for dinner. Wear something bright. Take all the photos. And get ready for a seriously fang-tastic night with your Jaya community.
