The Real Magic of Kids Yoga Camp at Jaya Yoga Studio in Clarks Summit, PA
Finding balance, one storybook challenge at a time. Our Belle's Book Balance Challenge was a favorite!
Every summer at Jaya Yoga Studio in Clarks Summit, PA, I'm reminded that children don't need another week of screens, schedules, or pressure to grow up faster.
They need imagination. They need movement. They need friendships. They need a place where it's okay to roar like a lion, pretend to be a princess, battle a villain, breathe like a dragon, and remember what it feels like to simply play.
That's exactly what we've been doing this week at our Disney-inspired Kids Yoga Camp.
Yes, we've traveled through the worlds of Disney animals, heroes and princesses, Pixar adventures, and even a few lovable villains. We've practiced yoga, created crafts, played games, laughed until our bellies hurt, and fully embraced the magic of childhood.
But the real magic hasn't come from the theme.
It's come from the children.
One little camper joined us feeling understandably shy. At snack time, she found herself sitting alone after a few kids excitedly moved to another table.
Before I could say much, another camper quietly picked up her chair, carried her snack over, smiled, and said, "You don't come to us, we come to you."
The tables were pushed together, new friendships were formed, and that little girl went home telling her mom she had made a new friend. The two have been nearly inseparable ever since.
Those are the moments that stay with me.
Another day, one of our youngest campers proudly invented her own game - a creative mash-up of two we'd already played. Instead of dismissing her idea, the older kids joined right in. Our counselor lifted her onto their shoulders, crowned her "the queen," and everyone became her loyal subjects for the next several minutes.
It wasn't about whether the game made perfect sense.
It was about making sure every child felt seen, heard, and celebrated.
As adults, we often think we're teaching children yoga poses, breathing exercises, and mindfulness.
But this week, they've reminded me that kindness is contagious. Imagination is powerful. Confidence grows when children are given space to lead. Friendships often begin with one simple act of inclusion.
Yes, yoga teaches balance and flexibility.
But it also teaches empathy, patience, confidence, self-regulation, and the ability to take one deep breath when life feels overwhelming. When children begin practicing these skills at a young age, they become tools they can carry with them long after camp ends.
At Jaya Yoga Studio, we believe yoga should be joyful, playful, and accessible for every age. Whether we're welcoming adults to the mat or introducing children to mindfulness through movement, our goal is the same: to create a space where people feel connected, confident, and cared for.
Tomorrow is our final day together. There will be costumes, popcorn, cotton candy, a little extra Disney magic, and plenty of smiles.
The decorations will come down. The crafts will go home. The cardboard castle we've built will be taken apart.
But my hope is that something much more important leaves with every child.
A new friend.
A little more confidence.
A reminder that their ideas matter.
A deep breath they know how to take when life feels big.
And the joy of simply getting to be a kid.
To every family who trusted Jaya Yoga Studio in Clarks Summit, PA with your children this week, thank you.
Watching them laugh, imagine, encourage one another, and grow has been the greatest magic of all.
I already know one thing for certain: I'll leave camp tomorrow a little tired, probably a little emotional, and incredibly grateful. These kids have reminded me that the greatest lessons aren't always taught by adults. Sometimes they're taught by a five-year-old who notices someone sitting alone and says, "You don't come to us, we come to you."
That's the kind of magic I hope they carry with them long after camp is over.
