Poses, Purrs, and Play: The Cat Yoga Experience

I was so honored to lead two sessions of Cat Yoga this past Sunday afternoon to benefit KitKat’s Mission at the Abington Community Library. From the moment participants rolled out their mats, we were joined by curious, playful, and absolutely adorable rescue cats, making the room full of laughter, stretching, and feline fun.

Planning the class, I knew there would be a lot of unknowns — cats roaming freely, who knows what they’d do, so I leaned into a playful energy. I had a blast incorporating cat and kitten puns and renaming the poses: Whisker Twist, Claw Fingers with Catitude, Sphinx, Lion’s Breath, Cats in the Cradle, and Cat in a Tree Pose. It made the afternoon lighthearted, fun, and full of smiles for both humans and kitties.

The Heart of KitKat Mission

The heart of the event, though, is the work of Dawn and Casey at KitKat’s Mission. Their devotion, passion, and tireless efforts to rescue, care for, and place cats in loving homes is truly inspiring. They handle everything — vet care through Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, food, litter, fostering mostly out of their own pockets. Watching them in action and seeing our community come together to support them left a lasting impression on me.

What really stuck with me, though, was thinking about how this work continues long after the mats are rolled up. For Dawn and Casey, this isn’t just an afternoon of smiles and yoga - it’s a daily commitment to cats and kittens in need. People come, bring litter or food, play with the cats, and go home, but for these animals, the work doesn’t stop. Their dedication inspired me to write this blog, and maybe it will inspire others, too. Even if you couldn’t attend, you can still help: donate supplies, support KitKat’s Mission, or consider adopting a cat in need. Every little bit makes a difference.

Participants of all levels laughed, stretched, and cuddled with the kitties while supporting a great cause. Some of the cats even found potential homes! It was a joyful, inspiring Sunday afternoon, and I can’t wait to do it again. If you love cats, yoga, and community, stay tuned - Cat Yoga will be back!
